Kitchen Blenders

Lotz :

I purchased this mixer on sale at a big box store. As soon as I used it the first time, I wished I’d bought a more nicer, hence more expensive, mixer. The beaters are very thin and I’m fairly certain won’t hold up to my frequent use. Forget about using the plastic bowl scraper. It consistenly flies off the beaters. I don’t even bother with it anymore. Also, the lowest speed is faster than the fastest speed on my old mixer. This means I have to mix my batters by hand before using the mixer. I’ve never needed to go higher than speed 1 for a supposedly 10 speed mixer, negating its 10 speeds. I’ve yet to use the whisks, but they aren’t worth having and extra mixer if that is all that ends up being useful on this product.

I would not buy this product again.

Blanco :

I bought this to replace an older one. For an emergency it worked ok. But as everyone mentions there is no slow speed, its so superfast that it takes real constraint to not have ingredients flying all over the place. The beaters are made of wire, the power of the motor most likely will make it beat a tough mix but it seems like the wires would eventually break. Too bad theres no slow speed and options to purchase other beaters that are more durable. I would not recommend this blender. I had a gift card and so it was free to me, its still not worth it though in the long run. Premix anything before using this, the beaters are a little short too. Good price, but for a few dollars more another blender is much more desirable.

Podd :

After about a week of use this blender was working fine for me. However, in its second week of use the motor seemed to be making noise, slowing down, & creating a burnt smell that one usually doesn’t want to smell from household appliances. I wasn’t working the blender too much…simply making a half pitcher of smoothies once a day. By the end of week two the motor finally called it quits. It died a painful death by emitting smoke out of the bottom of the blender. In short, this blender really sucked. I would expect a little more durability from a product with “Crush Master” in its title.

I bought one of these blenders just for making fruit smoothies from frozen berries, bananas, and orange juice, which I did a few times a week for about a year. At first I liked it because it seemed very powerful and there were no problems. In fact, my girlfriend needed a blender at the time, and I recommended she get the exact same one and she did. About a year later, my girlfriend and I got married and so we had 2 of the same blenders in our house. We were just using mine and put hers back in its box. Within a matter of a few weeks, I was making a smoothie and the plastic gear that makes the blade spin cracked. We were annoyed, but we figured, at least we have another blender; we’ll just use that. We used it for a few days - within a week, the exact same thing happened to hers. Black & Decker will only offer to sell us a replacement part for $27.90, which is almost as much as buying an entire new blender, and I have to wonder how long that replacement part will last. Save your money and time and DO NOT buy this blender.

Bleecker :

I have one comment for Applica, they should fire the engineers and product managers for this product. The Black & Decker line of blenders are riddled with design flaws and manufacturing flaws, it’s a complete failure. You can’t pay me enough to take one home again.

1) The screw groove of the glass jar seat is in the same direction as how you seat the entire assembly onto the blender motor assembly. When you are screwing the assembly into the bottom, you will end up unscrewing the glass jar from its seat. When you unscrewing apart the glass jar assembly from the motor assembly, you are again unscrewing the glass jar. The only way to safely aseemble the two pieces is to hold the white plastic seating piece. Hamilton Beach designed it correctly by using opposite screw grooves. This is the most irritating flaw on these blenders.

2) the motor is sooooooooo loud, even with nothing in the blender, it sounded like this thing is ready to take down the house.

3) reliability doesn’t exist. I blend one protein shake a day, just protein powder and water at low speed–probably the least power demanding blending job I can think of. After 1 week, that’s 5 uses, the motor gave out. My other 15 year old Hamilton Beach is still going strong.

4) the motor vibrates so much, the plastic glass-jar cap will loosen up and pop open during blending. This would allow liquid to splatter all over.

Total piece of junk. If you want to buy an inexpensive blender, go for Hamilton Beach.

My family went a decade without owning a blender before we purchased this, so admittedly we’re not blender experts, but I think I could have picked a better blender blindfolded with my hands tied behind my back. We bought this blender because of the B&D name and because it looked “cool.” I’ve always been a fan of B&D tools, so I figured shelling out $50 would be well worth the investment over the long haul. The classy hot-rod red made the housing very retro and spiffy, and for a year and a half it added some hipness to our kitchen.

Then we finally had occasion to use it. Day 1) Blueberry yogurt smoothie. I had to unplug the blender when the little blue LED flashed, giving it a chance to rest after 10 seconds of hard (ahem) blending of yogurt. The results were tasty, but the blender left a few large chunks of frozen yogurt. Yogurt chunks? Seriously?! That should have been a warning of what was to come. Two more days of pseudo-blended smoothies, and then… Day 4) Pineapple smoothies. After a few seconds the motor stalled and I poked around the bottom, thinking the frozen pineapple may have gotten stuck. Within moments of turning the blender back on, the “factory installed smoke” escaped and the blue LED flashed mockingly at me. *SIGH* My hopes of waking to many mornings of yummy smoothies literally went up in smoke. Heaven forbid what would have happened had I tried using ICE!

Had I read the other reviews of this blender, I never would have wasted my time, or my pineapple and quart of frozen yogurt. What a shame the Black & Decker name fooled so many of us…

Putney :

This blender is below average. It frequently overheats with only moderate use. The black ring has cracked, rendering it useless. I’m contemplating buying another brand rather than invest in replacement parts for this lame product.

Hodson :

This blender is very reasonably priced and looks nice on the counter, but that’s about it!
It is extremely loud and does a terrible job of chopping up the ice.
I am returning mine!
