cuisinart blenders food Helpful Info

How interesting that I would recieve an email inviting me to review my new Cusinart Duet Blender/Food Processor while I’m drinking my berry smoothie that I just finished making in it!
I can honestly only write about the activity of making a smoothie for this review. If making smoothies is why you need a blender, please don’t purchase this one.
For some reason they have designed the blades to be more than halfway below the bottom of the glass pitcher and ice, larger fruit (like strawberries) never get chopped up and if the concoction that you’re making is a frozen type, it will just spin and spin and nothing actually makes it down into the blade area. Opening the top and stirring every 20 seconds to get the mix down to the blades is very frustrating and time consuming.

Blender is terrible, returned it without ever using processor.

Why bother paying for half a machine? I was so dissapointed by the lack of job the blender did I returned it without ever using the processor part.

Blender jar is to wide, then goes in real narrow like small bowl around bottom of blades (but you can’t see that in picture because of big thick bulky plastic bottom that screws on heavy glass jar/unit), it would be more of a ‘chipper’ flinging stuff about on the top parts of the blades without ever really getting down to business.

    Terrible.

  • Aoki :

I have used only the blender and it works fine. It is easy to clean and very functional. I like the product.

  • Quispe :

I purchased this product in 2005, and I didn’t use it that often, maybe once a month average? I had to replace the blender blade around 2007 because the bottom plastic part under the blade that gets locked into the motor (don’t know what you call it) broke. It wasn’t too expensive to replace and it works fine after that, but then I don’t use it that often so that’s not really saying much. I noticed recently (2009) that the food processor makes this really loud ultra-sonic noise when I use it, and it wasn’t that loud in the beginning. I think something’s wrong with the food processor base that locks into the motor (the black part - it’s called the gear box collar) and I will likely replace that too for 20 dollars plus shipping. All in all, you’re not getting a quality product if your buy this, because the plastic parts are too weak to handle all the grinding and crushing. If I had to go back I would invest a little bit more to buy a higher quality product.

  • Dockter :

My first call to Cuisinart was in regard to the ear-piercing volume of the food processor. They listened to it and said it was normal. Sooo, make sure you throw in a pair of ear-plugs with your purchase. And please note that babies’ ears are very sensitive and they should NOT be in the room when this food processor is in use.
My second call to Cuisinart was at the 6 month mark when the drive shaft exploded. They quickly sent me a new one in the mail and I was very pleased!
My third call to Cuisinart was at the 9 month mark when I was trying to grate cheese (not even a hard parmigiana mind you, but a soft cheddar/jack!) This time they were unhelpful and told me I would have to mail them back the entire unit for inspection and include return postage! So now I have the burden of wondering if it’s worth spending the postage and waiting in line for a hunk of junk that’s probably going to break again in a few months.

  • Regen :

Geez where to start with this horrible object:

The blender assembly is plastic and breaks easily … within four months of daily use in our case.

The base of the jar has a sharp taper that creates a void around the blades, meaning frequent stops to jam food down into the blades.

    Smells like ozone.

    Sounds like a lawnmower.

    Avoid.

  • Quintanar :

I bought this blender on Amazon about 9 months ago for smoothies. I don’t remember how long the 1st one lasted before the burning smell and death of motor occurred. I went to Bed Bath and Beyond and bought a new one (exact same model.) I brought it home and swapped out the dead motors. I promptly brought it back to BB&BYND and told them it didn’t work and wanted a refund. My replacement lasted as long as the original, and I have since swapped out dead motors 3 more times at BB&BYND. I paid almost $100 for this thing on Amazon and there is no way I was going to just flush that money away. When you return a defective product to the store they send it back to the manufacturer for credit. There is no reason that the retail victim (us, the customers) should have to foot the bill for repair or replacement!!!
Anyway, I am now on my 5th blender in 9 months. I think the moral of this story is DO NOT BUY this blender!

  • Burnett :

Orig. purchased in Aug 08. Blender smoked and motor stopped first month after purchase but Cuisinart refused to replace. They stated they only “repair” at owners expense for shipping and handling. Amazon replaced blender. Same thing happened again with second blender after only 3 usages. Cuisinart told me they had recalled the blender but again refused to either refund or replace. Amazon refunded.

  • Quintanilla :

This thing just says hit me with your best shot! And I do everytime and it never fails me. I grind chicken breast for chicken loaf chop up garlic. OOOOOHHHH! So, nice! I noticed that some people complained about the size of the food processor but, I think it’s big enough to get the job done and if I’m making a larger meal I just split up the portions. I think for what your paying and that you should be more than pleased with what you recieve. It’s a combo deal - the blender jar is huge and sturdy and wonderful. The blades are sharp for both products and do a superb job. The stand up to anything (within reason for you nutty nuts out there)!

  • Meeker :

I burned up the motor making hummus - it might have been my fault, but I didn’t think I was asking it to work too hard. I love the compact design and dual purpose of this machine, and I might try buying another one if I can’t find a like product with greater Wattage. I have a small kitchen and limitted storage, so the design was important to me.

  • Hastings :

The comments about the burning smell are correct, motors burning out are correct. Although some will get ones without defects. This is typical of what occurs when there is virtually no quality control, as the BFP-10CH is one of the typical family of products that are off-shored to Communist China.
The focus is to make them cheap, as they pressure their Chinese hired contractors manufacturers to make them cheaper and cheaper. This is NOT the fault of China, but is the fault and choice of Cuisinart, who wants them cheap, like the Conair products.

Cuisinart is owned fully by Conair, the maker of inexpensive, lower grade hair appliances you will see in Walmart, Walgreens, Targets and other “discount stores”.

The brilliance of the American’s Carl and Shirley Sontheimer, MIT graduates, whose commitment to top of the line quality and engineering ingenuity hare now way gone as all of the products are off shored to the cheapest Communist Chinese manufacturers they can find and are working on, and succeeding of getting into the discount stores and increase profits by selling their lower level, discount appliances at higher prices due to the proud name and history of Cuisinart.

Conair and are owned by Leandro Rizzuto, who is focused on his new resort in Antigua.

Someone posted “What happened to Cuisinart”, now you know. IF the customer support is not what is used to be, it is because it is NOT what it used to be.

If you see plastic holding the stainless steel blades, instead of Stainless steel holding the blades together, like the better made blenders do, you know the reason.

I returned my model when I was shocked by its performance, burning smells, lack quality of its parts, the phony chrome, now I know why.

Some have notice other models of blenders looking exactly like Cuisinart on another site that reviews cookware, that is because they have been offshored to the same Communist Chinese “ODP”, as they are called, who get contracts to manufacture everything, then send them back for distribution.

So who knows, these might be made by children, indentured servants, prisoners, whoever, in horrific work conditions whose bosses are putting pressure on them to make them faster and cheaper and following the instructions of Cuisinart to use inferior materials. Then Cuisinart soaks their profits into the marketing arm of the organization that gets them in discount stores and lets the public think that the current Cuisinart products are related to the standard of great quality and support of the past.

I am going to look at some other companies and see where their products are manufactured so I can get an idea of the quality. I certainly don’t want to overpay to allow Leandro Rizzuto to get richer on others suffering and the use of the Cuisinart name.

I have one of these Smart Power Duet processoe/blenders and I think it is a very handy and space saving tool. I set it up on my counter and use it all the time. As far as noise goes, what electric power tool isn’t. It is worth it for the quick job it does.

  • Orliss :

This thing has got a lot of power, and as long as the bucket is big enough for your needs, it will do anything you need out of a food processor.

However, it is unbearably loud–so much so that I often change my recipe plans if it involves this tool. I mean, it is painful to be within 10 feet of it grinding some pesto.

Don’t buy this. Unless you have ear protection in your kitchen repertoire.

  • Ransopher :

I live in a small space and wanted a smaller food processor and a blender and this seemed to be a great solution. In principle it is a really good idea but the manufacturer should have included hearing protection. I use my earplugs when I use this machine. It’s as loud as a skill saw. The blender design is such that there are always chunks in my smoothies. I can’t make a full recipe of meatloaf in the processor.
I’m going to have my old Cusinart DLC-7 repaired and go back to it.

  • Furlow :

i love this thing i can make my daughters slurppees @ home with fresh fruit instead of that sugary crap, also i went to make split pea wit ham n bacon , now with my old mixer it would splatter everywhere , with this it blended everything nicely with NO SPLATTER. this is my new fav kitchen toy

  • Tamburrino :

I bought this blender after returning 2 others at a major retailer. I like the sturdiness of this product and that it doesn’t have a lot of gizmos. I need it to make smoothies, puree soups and sauces and make baby food. It does all of these in a snap and is an easy clean up. I would buy it again.

  • Slavik :

We had a different brand before getting this one, and this blends more thoroughly in much less time. The cord is plenty long, and it stands up freely so it takes up little counter space.
My one complaint is that the bottom of blade-guard is metal (without some sort of coating), so when using it in a Teflon-coated pot you have to be careful not to rub it too hard on the bottom and scratch the Teflon.

  • Rickabaugh :

I have been using this for making drinks of the frozen (shakes) and hot (extra foamy cappuchinos) varieties. It works quickly and well and I have no complaints for more power. It is not quite as easy to clean and I would like, but I am very meticulous. Hot milk is always hard to clean off of metal. I learned this over the years having owned many espresso makers with the milk steamer attached that always became too much of a bother to clean and so I just avoided using it. I would love it if we finally reach a truly futuristic kitchen gadget that is self cleaning or could be cleaned blindfolded. This is like any other kitchen gadget and does require some work to keep clean. It is otherwise a good product and suits my needs.

  • Reingold :

    2 main problems:

    1) It only has 1 speed: high. This means that if you have it more than 2/3 full with a pretty fluid mixture (not something thick) it spins up the side and onto the counter. So either I have to do a lesser amount to do the actual blend, then add water (or whatever) afterwards then pulse it to mix the additional fluid - not a show-stopper, but a pain, OR you just pulse it from beginning to end so the fluid inside never spins too fast. Note that this is not a problem with smoothies, but I use this for my health to mix cod-liver oil with cranberry, stevia, and water - too liquidy to stay in the cup.

    2) It also seems to suck air down through the center of the attachment if you keep it on long enough to get up to speed (which creates a vacuum by the blades) and you end up with tiny bubbles. Again, not a problem with smoothies, but for me the cod liver oil sticks to the bubbles and float to the top (a process called floculating). Gross.

The kitchen aid has 2 speeds so it doesn’t have these issues. Maybe that’s why it’s rated slightly better. Both of them are rated pretty high, but that has more to do with the fact that these hand blenders are pretty indispensible … not they they’re all designed exceptionally well. If I could afford it I’d the the braun, but at $250 .. ha!

    Get the Kitchen aid.
