of cuisinart blender Information

I got this as a wedding present and I was so excited, initially the hand blender worked beautifully. The little food processor attachment worked one time (literally ONE TIME) then it no longer turned, and we weren’t trying to chop ice (which it says it can do) we were blending some salsa… And the whisk? Absolutely useless, I tried to whip cream and beat eggs with it and after those two attempts, once in the supplied tall measuring cup and later in a gigantic bowl. The mess was monumental…never again. And now the hand blender doesn’t work, (once again trying to blend salsa), it spins perfectly unless its actually immersed in something then it hums uselessly. This is the last LAST Cuisinart product I will ever EVER buy (I’ve had 2 coffee pots go postal in one year and also 2 of their lovely coffee grinders that just one morning didn’t want to grind anymore, brilliant!) Next time I just want the hand blender, by some other manufacturer of course. But its fantastic while it works (enjoy while you can!).

This blender replaced a Hamilton Beach blender I bought almost 30 years ago. That blender never gave me any problems but I thought the motor was beginning to struggle a little and it seemed like a good time to get one with more power. The Cuisinart SB-5600 has that. Unfortunately, in the short time I have owned it I am close to spending as much in replacement parts as I did for the blender. The glass jar broke first. The Hamilton Beach had a glass jar…the same glass jar for almost 30 years. This one seems sturdy enough, and I know things happen, but another glass object barely touched it. Next, a average size frozen strawberry got wedged in somewhere, somehow, bent a blade on the cutter and stripped the threads on the piece that engages the drive clutch. Still waiting for that part to arrive in the mail. I expect the flimzy black part that the glass jar screws into to go next. Buying two of these may be a good idea. You could use one for parts.

The blender does have good power. It also has good noise, but so did the Hamilton Beach. It seems like a lower speed or a smaller container is needed. If its not full or if you are mixing something like a smoothy it seems to cavitate very easily, even on the lowest speed, which eliminates all cyclonic action. The high speed is all but unuseable unless your making a large smoothy for more than one or the contents is thin. Once you figure out what it likes it works great…unless its broke.

This Cusinart SB-5600 Supreme Super 600 60-ounce blender leaks. Don’t buy it. Look for a better one. No sense in paying this much money for crap.

I bought this blender less than two months ago for making smoothies. It worked well for 10-12 uses and then suddenly one day it wouldn’t turn on at all. My return window with Amazon has passed, and Cuisinart won’t replace it. They will only repair it, and that’s only if I pay the shipping costs to and from the Cuisinart returns department. Raw deal and shoddy craftsmanship if you ask me.

  • Knowles :

I wish I didn’t buy it, just stops working yesterday. I don’t know what happened, there is no reason, I took care of it according to the label. Don’t buy it!!!! I can’t believe I gave 100 to this piece of junk!!!!Now my return window with Amazon has passed, and Cuisinart won’t replace it. Beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Akers :

this thing is a piece of junk. poor job at blending and leaks like crazy and impossible to fix

  • Liberto :

Husband accidentally put the base in the dishwasher - he didn’t know better, it caused the base to sieze, which blew out the motor! The chopper housing is hard to clean and the plastic crazed from hot water washing!
    Avoid this!

  • Parisi :

I got this blender a year back. The contact between the chopper attachment and the motor part became loose and I could no longer use this blender. It’s junk for now.

  • Jimenez :

Great for making smoothies (I always have some frozen bananas and other fruit in the freezer), but it doesn’t chop ice or large chunks very well. Although, it’s easier to store and have available than a blender. Works great for soups and purees. Make your homemade vinaigrette a true emulsion. I guess you could also make your own mayo, but I never had the desire.

I found out about this immersion blender from a vegan friend of mine who uses it for making hummus on the spot whenever company drops it. I’ve made hummus many times, and since haven’t used the store-bought stuff.

This is not good for making salsa, as it tends to liquefy the ingredients in short order.

This also comes with a chopper/grinder attachment that looks like a mini food processor, and it comes with a whisk attachment. Both of these are really more trouble than they’re worth, and you’re better off using a knife and a hand whisk.

Still, this is one of those tools I use nearly everyday for over a year now. And this is the second one I have. The first plastic beaker developed stress cracks and the markings rubbed off. Cuisinart replaced the whole set since they couldn’t have the beaker separately in stock, and it was still under the 3-year warranty.

I’m blogging a list of what I consider my essential kitchen tools: [...]

When it worked it was a lifesaver. A great product that deserves its place in every kitchen. But after 6 months of regular use, the motor just died on us. We hadn’t used it much for the first 6 months and by the time it died, it was past a year of use. So touch luck.
I am not going to recommend a different product saying its better. I believe these products to have a limited shelf life and thus spending $50 on it instead of $20-$30 on inferior brands would really be no different. Atleast for the cost of one Cuisinart device, you can go through two of the other brands.

i love this thing i can make my daughters slurppees @ home with fresh fruit instead of that sugary crap, also i went to make split pea wit ham n bacon , now with my old mixer it would splatter everywhere , with this it blended everything nicely with NO SPLATTER. this is my new fav kitchen toy

I have been using this for making drinks of the frozen (shakes) and hot (extra foamy cappuchinos) varieties. It works quickly and well and I have no complaints for more power. It is not quite as easy to clean and I would like, but I am very meticulous. Hot milk is always hard to clean off of metal. I learned this over the years having owned many espresso makers with the milk steamer attached that always became too much of a bother to clean and so I just avoided using it. I would love it if we finally reach a truly futuristic kitchen gadget that is self cleaning or could be cleaned blindfolded. This is like any other kitchen gadget and does require some work to keep clean. It is otherwise a good product and suits my needs.

  • Ellman :

I bought this blender after returning 2 others at a major retailer. I like the sturdiness of this product and that it doesn’t have a lot of gizmos. I need it to make smoothies, puree soups and sauces and make baby food. It does all of these in a snap and is an easy clean up. I would buy it again.
