hamilton beach hand blender Assistive Tip

This product may be fine for blending liquids; but the food processing functions are totally unacceptable. I donated it to a charity group once I realized it can’t perform the most basic tasks.

For me it work perfect, I got it speccially to make baby food, and get the job done! easy, fast and really well done! and plus, come with the wire attachment, so I can use it to blend milk shakes, egg whites, etc. the blades are fine, and the air chamber helps a lot, so no regrets!

  • Ogunlalaka :

The plastic house around the blade stem has cracked and now leaks. At least I’m not alone, I now see that several other reviewers mentioned the same problem. I haven’t used it very much, but always on hot soup… maybe it can’t stand up to the heat. Too bad, I thought it was such a great gizmo, now I’ll be replacing it with another brand.

  • Aldrich :

So far so good, have only used it once in place of blender, much easier and fewer things to wash. Have not used the wire whip.

  • Cosso :

So far so good, I have had this Im. blender a short time, only a few oportunities to use it. Feels well made, does what it’s suppose to. The attachments ‘clip’ on better than the im blender I used previously. Gave them as gifts too, all seemed genuinely pleased. It would have been nice to have mixing ‘glass’ to come w/ it. My other one came w/ a tall covered mixing vessel.

  • Hefner :

I have been coveting a hand blender for some time. I postponed buying it because I have (ahem,) several kitchen appliances that I don’t really use. But, my daughter bought one for making baby food and I was saying how I wanted one & my wonderful momma bought me one of my own. And, I love it! Thanks, Momma!

I made carrot soup and it’s just awesome stuff! LOL–you can make gourmet soup from almost any veggie this way. Ditto fruit soup, and smoothies galore! Want a protein shake in the morning? Blend it up right in the glass! Voila!

Seriously, this thing is very easy to use (it has instructions, but it’s pretty simple to operate without a glance at them, although I would never recommend that!) And, the attachments are quite easy to clean — I just swoosh them in some soapy water. You could also put them in some water to soak for awhile if you’re in a rush. I would think if you mixed up something & let it dry on the attachments, you’d have to soak first to get it clean–so no need to turn a simple job into a pain.

My daughter makes baby food really fast with this blender, too. Just steam fruits, cereals, veggies, whatever, and then puree them with this blender–usually right in the same dish.

Highly recommended. You’ll find dozens of ways to use this affordable stick blender.

  • Latt :

LOVE this item! I also love my KitchenAid mixer and blender, but with the Hamilton Beach hand blender, I don’t have to drag out the heavy big guns to make whipped cream, whip egg whites for meringue or make smoothies. I keep it handy in the utensil crock on the counter, use it, and pop the attachments in the dishwasher. Quick and easy!

  • Piering :

I’m glad to see the great reviews on this item. I just bought it at Kohl’s for $24.99 & it has three attachments (some only had two)! What a find. Can’t wait to try it.

  • Loza :

We had a Rival immersion which was highly rated for a short time before I burned out the motor making whip cream. I since bought a regular mixer for making whip cream it does a far better job than an immersion blender.

I make a lot of cream soups and it is great for that without lugging out the big blender not to mention the clean up, the blender will soon be relegated to the basement as a back up. I like the case, it puts everything in one place and easy to store away. There is a milk shake attachment which is very nice and a whipping attachment, I suppose that would be much better for whip cream. I can see a lot of shakes and smoothies coming this summer with my new toy.

Someone mentioned clean up in the dish washer, a little tip for any immersion blender. As soon as I finish with it, I fill a glass or bowl with hot sudsy water and buzz it for a few seconds and then rinse, works great and just wipe off and put away, couldn’t be easier.

Another hint if you get this one. It isn’t entirely obvious or intuitive that the blender comes with the attachment adapter to use the shake and mixer already installed but doesn’t work with the regular blender blade. You have to twist the attachment adapter off and install the blade. It may not make sense at the moment, but when you get it you will say, ah, that is what he meant.

My initial impression of this unit is very good.

  • Ledesma :

I bought this hand blender for my daughter. She is one of those health nuts that likes to make fruit smoothies for snacks. She is always complaining of the mess and trouble to get out her big blender to make these and then the cleanup afterward. I checked out these hand blenders and read through all the comments from other users on Amazon and decided on this particular blender because it was rated very good and was priced right. As usual with Amazon purchases, the product was delivered promptly directly to my daughter’s house.

She loves it! It comes apart easily for cleaning and its 200-watt motor provides plenty of power in making smoothies where you add ice to the glass to make the smoothie thick and creamy. It comes with several attachments which can be used for other kinds of mixing and chopping tasks. I am very satisfied with this particular item and my daughter uses it almost every day.

  • Irish :

I have been using this for making drinks of the frozen (shakes) and hot (extra foamy cappuchinos) varieties. It works quickly and well and I have no complaints for more power. It is not quite as easy to clean and I would like, but I am very meticulous. Hot milk is always hard to clean off of metal. I learned this over the years having owned many espresso makers with the milk steamer attached that always became too much of a bother to clean and so I just avoided using it. I would love it if we finally reach a truly futuristic kitchen gadget that is self cleaning or could be cleaned blindfolded. This is like any other kitchen gadget and does require some work to keep clean. It is otherwise a good product and suits my needs.

  • Hayward :

    2 main problems:

    1) It only has 1 speed: high. This means that if you have it more than 2/3 full with a pretty fluid mixture (not something thick) it spins up the side and onto the counter. So either I have to do a lesser amount to do the actual blend, then add water (or whatever) afterwards then pulse it to mix the additional fluid - not a show-stopper, but a pain, OR you just pulse it from beginning to end so the fluid inside never spins too fast. Note that this is not a problem with smoothies, but I use this for my health to mix cod-liver oil with cranberry, stevia, and water - too liquidy to stay in the cup.

    2) It also seems to suck air down through the center of the attachment if you keep it on long enough to get up to speed (which creates a vacuum by the blades) and you end up with tiny bubbles. Again, not a problem with smoothies, but for me the cod liver oil sticks to the bubbles and float to the top (a process called floculating). Gross.

The kitchen aid has 2 speeds so it doesn’t have these issues. Maybe that’s why it’s rated slightly better. Both of them are rated pretty high, but that has more to do with the fact that these hand blenders are pretty indispensible … not they they’re all designed exceptionally well. If I could afford it I’d the the braun, but at $250 .. ha!

    Get the Kitchen aid.

  • Jun :

We had a different brand before getting this one, and this blends more thoroughly in much less time. The cord is plenty long, and it stands up freely so it takes up little counter space.
My one complaint is that the bottom of blade-guard is metal (without some sort of coating), so when using it in a Teflon-coated pot you have to be careful not to rub it too hard on the bottom and scratch the Teflon.

  • Paulus :

i love this thing i can make my daughters slurppees @ home with fresh fruit instead of that sugary crap, also i went to make split pea wit ham n bacon , now with my old mixer it would splatter everywhere , with this it blended everything nicely with NO SPLATTER. this is my new fav kitchen toy

  • Irish :

I bought this blender after returning 2 others at a major retailer. I like the sturdiness of this product and that it doesn’t have a lot of gizmos. I need it to make smoothies, puree soups and sauces and make baby food. It does all of these in a snap and is an easy clean up. I would buy it again.

  • Hirano :

we got this immersion blender because of the price point and we wanted one for soups and baby food. we’re very pleased with this blender. it works really well for baby food and is able to blend stuff to the right consistency for our 6 month old baby. our only complaint with it is that after a while your finger hurts holding the “engage” button, as noted by someone else.

other than that one complaint, great immersion blender for twice the price.

  • Jong :

Bought this a while ago to blend up my baby’s food. This is very good for small portions of food compared to those regular food processor (i’ve sold it since getting this blender). Cleans easily too (be sure to do so straight after use). Definitely worth every dime.

  • Haun :

This blender is definitely not for anything major. I didn’t expect it to have such little power. It took ages to blend cooked vegetables in soup but would be OK for blending ice cream or a powdered drink. I had a Braun one that could blend raw fruit. There is no way this one would. Also you can’t immerse it very far so as I said if you’re looking to blend a big pot of soup, which is what I was hoping to do, you’re out of luck.
