After I tried holding the spindle, blocking the motor blades–all with no success, I found these instructions. Took 2 knocks and 10 seconds to remove the coupling!…

(1) Note that the coupling (the round part with teeth) is threaded to the blender motor in reverse to a standard threading. So it screws off just like a bottle top, but in a clockwise direction.

(2) place the blender base on a tabletop, facing you, base down/coupling up. You should probably unplug it.

(3) take a punch or a flathead screwdriver, and place it against one of the coupling teeth that is furtherest away from you.

(4) strike the back of the screwdriver with a small hammer or maillot. The result will spin coupling clockwise. It may take several tries, but the coupling will eventually spin clockwise faster than the motor, and it will begin to unthread.

(5) unscrew the old coupling, and screw the new coupling into place (counterclockwise). Note that the new coupling will tighten itself every time you use your blender, so no need to worry about tightening it too much.

(6) Make a smoothie to celebrate your success!

I was very pleased with the adapter for the blender and it was easy to install. Now the blender actually works.

Several other reviewers have mentioned this, unplug the blender, use a long screwdriver to stop the motor from turning (insert screwdriver from bottom of base up through one of the holes in blender base), and then unscrew the coupling. Simple and easy.

Eagle :

Great hand blender for making baby food. We originally started with a traditional blender which was harder to get the food smooth and much harder to clean. This hand blender makes baby food in a snap and is easy to clean. It is also great for traveling as it easily fits into a suitcase. Highly recommend instead of a traditional blender for making baby food.

Bellis :

This hand blender works great. Easy cleanup and easy storage since the blade portion (and shaft) disconnect from the motor for cleaning. Having it break down into two pieces allows the blender to be stored easily in a drawer.

The adjustable power levels are great too. However, I would sure appreciate a “stay on” button on the next model.

This blender is great for making those quick Whey Protein and fruit shakes!

Quatawi :

This is not specified anywhere, but all KitchenAid KFP7xx machines are 700 Watts. The 9 cup capacity with 700 watts makes a great combination - especially with the minibowl for smaller capacities. This is also a great looking machine with chrome to go with stainless kitchen appliances. The smooth edges make it easy to clean and all detachable parts go in the dishwasher with no problem - and so far, no rusting.
I blew up two other 900W blenders (actually just blew the fuse) trying to make manna bread (chopping up sprouted wheat berries). Both blenders and my hamilton beach processor could only minimally grind the wheat. But the KFP740 ground it to a very fine dough very quickly - perfect!
I tried the dough blade to make cookies - it didn’t work so well. The stand mixers do a much better job of this. I will have to try bread dough with it and report back on how it works.
The only other negative is a problem many food processors have - including Cuisinart: the maximum liquid level is much lower than the processor capacity. This one measures just over 2 cups on the large bowl(there is actually a mark on the side of the bowl). However, if your liquid is pretty thick and you leave the chopper in place, it won’t spill out when you exceed 2 cups. Also, get this - the minibowl has over 3 cup max liquid capacity. That’s because the inside tube goes up much higher.
Overall, this is the most versatile, practical, powerful and best looking processor I could find for under $200.

Overholt :

When I first bought this it only saw occasional use, really just to puree soups and such stuff…but as time has gone on I have found more and more uses for it, until it has become an indispensible tool that I use almost every time I cook and I can’t imagine how I ever lived without it. I cook better, more ambitious dishes because of it.

I find it to be pretty much the perfect size, and the small insert bowl is very useful for smaller jobs. I use the small bowl almost as much as the big one, if not more. Great feature.

I have never written a review on a product before, but I am so impressed with this appliance I felt compelled to do so. I have owned several highend food processors in past including the original Cuisinart when it first came out several years ago. The biggest plus is the design. The bowls are curved instead of straight sided which means you don’t have to constantly stop and scrap them down. This also helps to prevent over processing and and gives you an even dice. The mini bowl is another great feature for small quick jobs. Small foot print for it’s capacity and powerful yet quiet operation. A cinch to clean bewteen jobs, just a quick wipe with a soapy sponge and a warm water rinse and your ready to go on to the next ingredient. Comes with all the attachments you’ll ever need. The Black and Chrome finish looks great on my counter.

Just bought this blender based on the review in Cooks Illustrated. So far I’m very happy with it. Smoothies and margaritas are great to make in this blender, it crushes ice and frozen fruit effortlessly. Highly recommend it!
