I HAVE PRETTY MUCH EVERY MODERN APPLIANCE & GADGET A KITCHEN PRINCESS COULD EVER ASK FOR. MY ONLY PROBLEM WITH MY PURCHASES IS THAT COLORS CHANGE SO I MAY NOT WANT TO DISPLAY THEM ON THE COUNTER. SUCH WAS THE PROBLEM WITH MY ORIGINAL 10 SPEED OSTERIZER CIRCA 1969, A BRIDAL SHOWER GIFT FROM MY MOM, IT IS AVOCADO GREEN. I WANTED TO SHARE THE COUNTER WITH MY WHITE CUISINART FOOD PROCESSOR, GREEN KITCHENAID MINI PROCESSOR, GREEN KITCHEAID STAND MIXER, & WHITE MR. COFFEE——BUT NOT AVOCADO!!! THE SCARRY PART IS, THAT ORIGINAL IS STILL WORKING TO THIS DAY, 36 YRS. LATER, & STILL CRUSHES ICE TO BOOT! IT STOPPED ON ME LAST YEAR & AFTER I CHECKED IT OUT, IT WAS JUST A LITTLE BUILT UP STICKYNESS IN THE BASE. CLEANED IT OUT —– GOOD TO GO! WELL, I BOUGHT THIS ONE IN WHITE & IT’S JUST AS WONDERFUL AS THE ORIGINAL. I KNEW I COULD COUNT ON OSTER! THERE’S VERY FEW CHANGES, & THE ONE I LOVE IS THE NEW SHAPE—–WIDER GLASS JAR—-NO DOUBT THEY LISTENED TO THE CONSUMER—-THAT WAS THE ONLY THING I MIGHT HAVE CHANGED. THIS BABY IS A GREAT MACHINE—–BUT THEN “MOM” IS STILL A GOOD OLD GAL TOO! BUY “THE NAME” IN BLENDERS, & I HOPE YOURS LASTS 3 1/2 DECADES ALSO.

parts for black and decker blenders Free Related Tip
This worked great for a few uses. It even crushed ice effectively and I liked the pulse function. I agree with someone else that the collar at the base is lame and difficult to deal with.
Then the dial stopped working. Wouldn’t turn right of the middle. I thought maybe it was stuck, so I pulled on it *gently* and the whole dial broke off.
So now I have a rather large paperweight. Guess I know that I need to spend more money on a blender next time.
Thanks, Oster!
I am glad that I purchased this blender, instead of going by the reviews. I have had this blender now for 4 months and it works great. I do not know if the other reviewers had earlier models before the kinks were worked out or not, but I have not had any problems with this product. This blender has a lot of power, does exactly what I need for it to do. I love the Brushed Nickel design, and it looks attractive on the counter.
If you are lookig for a reasonable high product at a low price this would be it! I cant complain, it is brushed nickel stainless steel type that adds a inovative look to your kitchen and it will help you on your blending needs for a very long time.
This blender seems like a worthwhile product. It looks great in our kitchen, but we haven’t had an opportunity to use it yet. The controls are simple to use without a lot of electronics to go bad. The only negative we see so far is that the pulse button in the center of the controls is always live, so it’s easy to bump it by accident. We like this very solid machine.
We’re saving the glass “jar” from our old, ancient Oster blender becaause it also fits this new Oster and might come in handy some day.
It started when I opened the box and pulled out the really cheap product pamphlet: the thinnest, cheapest newsprint type paper with the barest info on my new OsterĀ® 14-Speed Blender with Brushed Nickel Finish, not even any recipes. Then I pulled out the blender jar. Granted, I haven’t bought a new blender in years, and hadn’t really thought about how ‘tiny’ 40 ounces is, a little over 4 cups. My old one was probably double that; I do drinks for a Crowd; soup for a Family. Forty ounces ain’t gonna cut it for me. Second surprise - the brushed nickel finish was…a spray-on shiny silver paint on the flimsiest thin plastic screw-on base. I could actually flex the base with my fingers. One misstep with that blender would definitely yield a cracked base, and scratches in the paint. I pulled out the motor: it, too, was flimsy and spray-painted silver. The cord was maybe 12 inches long, if that, and the dial for the speeds seemed flimsy. I was shocked because ‘back in the day’ an Oster blender was a brand you could trust! I wish I had read more reviews before purchase and sending it back!!
5.0 out of 5 stars Osterizers rule, May 14, 2009
I’ve owned blenders for decades. I started with Waring but tired of their motors burning out and bought an Osterizer 10 speed with glass container some 25 years ago. That blender finally died this week, the motor burning out (what a smell!). Now, it was only 120 watts, so I suppose I was fortunate it lasted for around 25 years considering the punishment it got — I often made peanut butter in it from oven roasted peanuts, and it died making peanut butter!
Soon after buying my 10 speed Osterizer, I bought an Oster food processor attachment for it for $10 at a local store, and I’ve used that exclusively for grinding meat. It does a very nice job. So, in replacing my burned out 10 speed I figured I’d get another Osterizer so I can continue to use this food processor as well as the two glass containers I have (I picked up an extra somewhere). I was pleased to discover that the present Osterizer line accommodates the old containers, etc.
Yesterday I made the rounds at the local big box stores and picked up the 6694 14 speed. The glass container is wider than the ones I had already, and I figure that’s a very good thing. It will be easier to scrape out peanut butter, smoothies, whatever using a plastic spatula. Now, the glass isn’t as thick, so I will have to be even more careful… I have no backup wide glass container, after all. I now have two sets of blades (the new one looks identical to the old one I bought 25 years ago!). The new one is incredibly sharp, but I’m sure that some day I will need to sharpen it, like I did with the old one (which I will hang onto, of course). I have used a small fine file to sharpen the blades on occasion.
Noise! Yes, I’ve read a lot of reviews of the Osterizers that discuss noise. Well, I keep ear protection handy in the kitchen just for this purpose. Used to be foam plugs, but now I reach for a $2 pair of earmuffs I picked up at Harbor Freight! Works like a charm and eliminates that painful sensation of too loud noises (I use this when using power tools around the house too, or anything else that generates excessive noise).
My 6694 is white and matches all my other kitchen appliances very nicely. I considered the Beehive and some of the other high power Osterizers (the ones I saw yesterday were 600 watts!), but decided that the 450 watt 6694, which cost 1/2 as much, might actually serve me better (assuming it doesn’t burn out… have my fingers crossed). It’s bound to be quieter, has high and low power toggle switch and thus two pulse settings. In other words, it’s more versatile than the new 600 watt Osterizers, which evidently have only one pulse setting (with the exception of an electronic version I saw yesterday, which has two). My old 10 speed had 3 separate pulse buttons. When using the food processor attachment, a variety of pulse settings is important. The 6694 is also a little shorter than the 600 watt models, one of my considerations because it has to allow my kitchen cabinet doors to swing over it. The 6694’s very tallest part is at about 15 inches above the counter, which is the same height as my old 10 speed.
I’m worried about the new 14 speed, though. I’ve read reviews about the base breaking and inspecting I find that indeed the plastic base is relatively flimsy. It’s barely if at all more than 1/2 as thick as the plastic of my old 10 speed. The 14 speed’s base weighs in at 2 lb. 12 oz. while the 10 speed is 3 lb. 6 oz. And the 14 speed has a much more powerful motor, which tells you that the construction of the base has been sacrificed on the alter of skimping on materials. Well, if the new 14 speed dies a premature death I’ll probably spring for a high end Osterizer, and I’ll do more homework next time.
This 14 speed Oster 6694 passed its first real test, making peanut butter. It behaved pretty similar to my old 10 speed. It was about the same loudness. I measured the power consumption during the process. Rated at 450 watts, it actually drew about 600 watts at the highest speed and maximum load (i.e. when it was laboring with a thick sludge of semi ground peanuts). When the peanuts were somewhat better ground, the consumption dropped to around the rated 450 watts and when things were pretty smooth it dropped down to around 260 watts, all this at the highest speed.

Fairly noisy but it was to be expected. It’s a great deal for blender.
I do smoothies every day with frozen fruit and this blender is great for that. I like that it has many ranges of control as well as a low/high selection. It is a powerful and well made blender that cleans up easily. Great buy.

At the big box stores I couldn’t find another brand of blender that employs this feature, including Kitchen Aid. Maybe it’s a patent thing, but I thought that patents only apply for so long…

Had his a couple of days now and it’s doing the job. Particularly good at crushing ice for protein smoothies. Only takes a couple seconds and there are no ice chunks present. The colors have changed from photo to a gray face place with white and gray buttons. The little green buttons are now gray. It’s noisy but works much quicker than the $100 kitchenaid it’s replacing.
This blender gets used several times a week. I selected the brand Oster because my mom’s food processor has lasted her about a decade, and shows no signs of wearing down anytime soon.
I received this blender in June 2008. I use it for a variety of things:
- Fruit Smoothies
- Thick Milkshakes
- Homemade Frosting
- Margaritas
- Other Recipes
It is easy to use, dishwasher safe (a MUST in my house), and it looks great if you leave it out on the counter. I was surprised at the quietness of this blender. No blender can be silent, but this is much quieter than I had anticipated.
I would recommend this to anyone who uses a blender, whether it’s daily or a few times a year.
Enjoy!
